Learn To Fish - Sunday July 28th - 9 am to 2 pm
Children 15 and under and their families are invited to join us for a fun day of fishing and much more. Learn how to fish from our local angling experts.
The event is free and family friendly at the Kingfisher Interpretive Centre. Directions to the KIC here

Great prizes will be awarded throughout the day. The Enderby Lion’s Club will be hosting a barbeque and offering hot food by donation.
Every fisherman remembers catching their first fish. The details may get foggy over the years but that life changing experience is never forgotten. Would you like your children to have an opportunity to catch a fish? Would you like to take your grandkids fishing but don’t have the gear, the knowledge or the time? Join us for a Learn to Fish program and give your children a chance to catch a fish and enjoy a day outdoors learning about fishing and making life lasting memories. The event takes place at the Kingfisher Interpretive Centre near the end of July annually (located 25 km’s east of Enderby at 2550 Mabel Lake Rd). Local angling experts will be volunteering their time and knowledge to provide a firsthand fishing experience for our youth. They will be offering instruction on casting techniques, fish handling practices, fish identification, fly tying and more. This unique chance to learn the ins and outs of successful fishing is something you don’t want to miss if you are just learning to fish or have never had the chance to try. Fishing rods will be available to use and advice on what to purchase will be offered to anyone interested in starting their own career in fishing. This fun filled day will also include information on aquatic invasive species, an interactive aquatic bug display and more.

Salmon Egg Take on the Shuswap River - Thanksgiving Weekend
The Kingfisher Interpretive Centre Society hosts their annual Salmon Egg Take event over the Thanksgiving long-weekend. The purpose of the Egg Take event is the annual brood-stock collection of Chinook salmon eggs for the Society’s community-run salmon hatchery, which, with government support and the tireless efforts of thousands of volunteers, has been raising Chinook salmon for over 37 years. It is a public involvement program (PIP) supported by Fisheries and Oceans Canada with the aim to spread salmon awareness and increase salmon stewardship, in the hopes of protecting our wild salmon stocks for future generations to enjoy. It is conservation through education and involvement.
The day starts on the river; netting the fish, collecting the eggs and milt. We will then return to the Interpretive Centre to fertilize the eggs and put them into our salmon incubator. This free, fun, family event is a great opportunity to get an up-close, hands-on look at our local Chinook salmon.
Some of the Chinook eggs collected will be taken to local schools where thousands of schoolchildren will also get hands-on experience raising fish in their classrooms.
The event is free and family friendly at the Kingfisher Interpretive Centre. Directions to the KIC here. You are welcome to participate or just observe. There will be waders and life-jackets available for borrow on a first come, first serve basis but if you have your own bring them with you. Also, you may wish to bring a lunch to enjoy on the river bank.
