About Us
The Kingfisher Interpretive Centre Society is governed through a volunteer Board of Directors with a membership base electing directors on an annual basis. Through the tireless efforts of hundreds of volunteers annually, we are able to raise 50,000 Chinook salmon and offer educational programming to thousands of school children and visitors each year.
We receive funding annually from Fisheries and Oceans Canada to assist hatchery operations and to deliver the highly regarded Stream to Sea Program, providing Chinook salmon eggs to over 45 local schools, from three school districts where children and teachers raise the fish in classroom incubators. This life-changing experience culminates with a day at the Centre where the children release their fish back into the natural world. The Stream to Sea Program is a stepping stone for all of the other hands-on, ecology based knowledge that is shared with the participants and visitors to the site.
Funding is sought each year to help with operating costs, site maintenance and environmental educational programming.
